Theology of the Body and The Two Minute Twerk (Yes, Really)
Why Your Happy Dance Is Holy”
I know what you’re thinking.
“You want me to… dance? In the morning? Before coffee?”
Yes. Yes, I do. And here’s why.
☀️
Let’s Set the Scene:
You roll out of bed. The alarm’s going off. You’re groggy. Maybe even grumpy.
But instead of hitting snooze, you hear it:
🎶 “You’re doing the happy dance…” 🎶
And suddenly…
You’re fluffing your pillows with a little rhythm.
You’re brushing your teeth with a bop.
You’re shimmying into the day with just enough movement to say:
“My body is awake, and my spirit is ready.”
🧠
Science Says:
Just a few minutes of dancing boosts endorphins, lowers cortisol, and balances your hormones.
Movement activates your nervous system in a good way, especially if you’ve got anxiety, depression, or trauma stored up.
It helps your body say, “I’m safe. I’m present. I’m alive.”
🙏
Theology Says:
Theology of the Body reminds us:
Your body is not a problem to be solved — it’s a sacred place where heaven and earth meet.
God made your body on purpose and for joy. So every time you move with intention — even a silly dance — you’re reclaiming your temple.
🌶️
So Here’s the Challenge:
Start small.
Set your alarm to a song that makes you feel sassy for the Savior.
Dance while making the bed.
Twerk for Jesus in the mirror if that’s what wakes up your joy.
Laugh. Move. Wiggle your soul back into alignment.
✝️
Spiritual Takeaway:
Sometimes healing doesn’t start with stillness.
Sometimes it starts with a dance.
Because motion reminds us:
“Even when I feel stuck… I am still moving.”
📿
Try this Reflection:
Before your next happy dance, whisper:
“God, thank You for this body. For these legs that dance.
For this heartbeat that’s still here.
Let this joy be my worship today.”
💌 PS:
Tag me in your happy dance.
Let’s make movement holy again.
Let’s heal loud.
Let’s start the revival right in our bathrobes. 💃🛁✨

🙏 DEVOTIONAL: Moving With Joy Is Moving With God
Scripture:
“You have turned my mourning into dancing; you have loosed my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness.”
— Psalm 30:11 (ESV)
Reflection:
Sometimes we think we have to wait until we’re healed to celebrate.
But scripture flips the script. It says that movement is part of the healing.
God doesn’t just rescue you — He teaches your body how to dance again.
Even the tiniest bounce in your step is a “yes” to life.
Theology of the Body reminds us:
You were made not just to survive in your body, but to delight in it.
Dancing, laughing, swaying — these are prayers in motion.
They remind you that you are still alive. Still worthy. Still holy.
✍️ Journal Prompt:
What kind of movement makes me feel most like me?
What lies have I believed about my body and joy?
If I could dance like no one was judging — not even me — what would that look like?
How could I begin my day with joy as worship?
💃
Movement Prayer:
God, thank You for this body.
For this breath.
For this beat.
Let my movement today be more than exercise — let it be evidence that I am still here, still praising, still choosing joy.
Even when I don’t feel it — I choose to move in faith.
Amen.
