When Random Isn’t So Random
✨ When Jeremiah Speaks to Our Times
This morning, when I opened my Bible, it fell to the book of Jeremiah. At first glance, Jeremiah can feel heavy — full of warnings, grief, and lament. But as I began reading, I realized how much his words reflect the world we live in today.
Jeremiah lived during days when God’s people were surrounded by violence, fear, and uncertainty. Families were scattered, leaders were corrupt, and innocent lives were threatened. The nation was unraveling. And yet, into that darkness, God called a young man to speak — not with his own strength, but with words God placed directly in his mouth:
“Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you,” declares the Lord. (Jeremiah 1:8)
Then and Now

As I read those underlined words, I couldn’t help but think of our own times — of the heartbreak we feel when we hear of school shootings, divisions, and the weight of violence in our world. It is painful. It is frightening. And it can leave us wondering where God is in the middle of it all.
But just as He did in Jeremiah’s day, God whispers into our fear: “Do not be afraid. I am with you.”
🌿 The Almond Branch of Hope
(Insert 📸 Almond tree photo here — caption: “The almond tree: the first to bloom, a sign that God is watching and His promises awaken.”)
Not long after Jeremiah received his call, God showed him a vision of an almond tree branch. In Hebrew, the word for almond (shaqed) sounds almost the same as the word for watching (shoqed).
God told Jeremiah: “You have seen correctly, for I am watching to see that My word is fulfilled.” (Jeremiah 1:12)
The almond tree is the very first tree to bloom in Israel, often while the rest of the land is still cold and barren. It is a sign that spring is coming — that new life always breaks through.
🌸 “Even in barren seasons, the almond tree blooms first. God is watching… and His promises will awaken too.”
What a gentle reminder for us today: even in times of fear, God is awake, alert, and faithful to bring His promises to life. He has not forgotten. He is watching over His word, and He is watching over us.
Christ’s Compassionate Voice
Here is what struck me most: God’s message wasn’t ultimately one of destruction, but of restoration. His heart was, and still is, love.
Through Christ, that love reaches every single one of us. No one is excluded. No one is left out. His voice is never one of shame, but always one of compassion:
To the brokenhearted, He says, “You are not alone.”
To the fearful, He says, “I am with you.”
To the weary, He says, “Come to me, and I will give you rest.”
An Invitation for Us
When we open the pages of Scripture, even in books that seem harsh or distant, we find something more than ancient words — we find a God still speaking today. We find reminders that even when the world feels unsteady, His love remains steady.
So maybe today, you too might open your Bible and see what page it falls to. You may just find that the words you need most are waiting for you, written long ago, but alive and full of hope right now.
May His voice of love be the one that guides us, comforts us, and draws us closer — in every season. 🌿
